Neurotoxin
Before
- Avoid medications that inhibit clotting such as vitamin E, aspirin, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for seven days prior to treatment.
- Make sure you do not have any massage or facial treatments scheduled within 7 days after your appointment.
During After Results
You will feel multiple small needle injections and a slight stinging sensation, which will last about 3-5 seconds. Minor bleeding is possible.
After
- To stop any incidental bleeding from the injection, you may use a tissue and hand pressure. Duration of results vary from person to person. Average length of treatment results from Botox and Xeomin is 8-14 weeks. Average length of treatment results from Daxxify is 16-24 weeks.
- Use a cold pack if needed for tenderness but be sure not to apply significant pressure as it can cause migration of the product. It is normal to see slow return of minor movement starting around 6-8 weeks after initial injection with Botox or Xeomin and around 12-16 weeks with Daxxify. Your muscles will continue to be weaker than prior to treatment but will slowly regain strength until you return to baseline.
- Remain upright for 4-5 hours after treatment to help avoid toxin migration. Optimal timeframe for re-injection is every 12-16 weeks for Botox or Xeomin and every 24 weeks for Daxxify to prevent return to baseline & for continuing results.
- You may use Acetaminophen (if no underlying medical condition or allergy) for mild discomfort or headache, which is common after treatment.
- You may shower & do most regular activities immediately after treatment. Use gentle cleansers & avoid makeup for 12 hours
Avoid exposure to heat, saunas, hot tubs, and sunlight/tanning beds for 48 hours. - Avoid any facial treatments for 7-14 days post-procedure.
- Avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
- Do NOT lay face down with pressure on the face (ex. massage cradle, child’s pose in yoga), rub or massage eyes or face, or put any pressure on face for at least 48 hours.
- Bruising/swelling at the injection site may occur. Bumps & marks at the injection site are normal & should resolve in a few hours.
- It can take up to 2 weeks for the toxin to have full effect on nerves/muscles plus an additional 2 weeks after that for results to ‘settle’. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out, but it is highly recommended to wait until the 3-week mark to consider any touch-ups or reinjections.
- Upon initial onset of neuromodulator effects, facial heaviness can be common/normal and should subside as you get used to toxins (usually by the 4-week mark).

Chemical Peel
- Some chemical peels require patients to have been on home products for 30 days prior to treatment. Check with your provider to determine if this applies to you.
- If you are lactating, pregnant or may be pregnant, consult with your provider prior to receiving any treatment.
- Avoid sun exposure for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment.
- Avoid the use of retinoid products (eg. Retinol, Retin A, Tazorac) and high levels of AHA and BHA products for approximately 7 days prior to treatment. Consult your provider before temporarily discontinuing the use of any prescription medications.

During
Your face will be cleansed and then prepped with a peel prep solution that feels similar to alcohol or nail polish remover on your skin.
Results
Both lines of peels will improve the tone, texture and clarity of the skin; reduce age spots, improve hyperpigmentation (including melasma), soften lines and wrinkles; clear acne skin conditions; reduce or eliminate acne scars; and stimulate the production of collagen, for firmer, more youthful skin.
ALUMIER MD PEELS
A series of products and solutions will be applied to the face and/or neck. Some will simply tingle and others will cause a temporary burning sensation that is tolerable for the vast majority of patients. You will be provided a hand held fan to reduce discomfort. After treatment, you will leave the office with Recovery Cream and SPF and will look like you have excessive product on your face. This should stay in place for at least 4 hours, with 12 hours being the goal.
After
- Due to the nature of these treatments, you should not necessarily expect to “peel”. However, you may have light to moderate flaking in a few localized areas for 3-7 days. You may also experience residual redness, which lasts in most patients for 1-12 hours. It is recommended that you do not apply makeup the day of treatment. It is ideal to allow the skin to stabilize and rest overnight. However, makeup can be applied, if necessary. Tonight your skin will feel tight and ‘pulled’. Although you may or may not actually ‘peel’, it is likely that you will experience a light ‘exfoliation’. It may take 2 or more treatments to target the deeper layers of skin to loosen and ‘peel’. In order to obtain maximum results and avoid complications, please follow the post-peel instructions listed below for approximately 5-7 days. It is recommended to use Alumier MD Post Procedure Kit, be sure to ask about this on the day of your peel.
- DO NOT cleanse your skin the evening of your peel.
- DO NOT pick or pull any flaking skin
- DO NOT Tan or use a tanning booth for at least 30 days post peel. YOU ARE VERY STRONGLY ADVISED TO ENTIRELY ABSTAIN FROM THE USE OF TANNING BOOTHS INDEFINITELY.
DO NOT have electrolysis, waxing, threading or any other form of hair removal for 30 days post treatment. - DO NOT use facial scrubs or mechanical forms of exfoliation for 14 days post peel.
- DO NOT use retinoic acid, AHA or BHA for 14 days post peel.
- DO NOT have laser hair removal, photofacials, chemical peels or microdermabrasion for 30 days post peel.
- DO NOT apply ice or ice water to the treated area.
- DO NOT use hot tubs, steam rooms, saunas, and/or excessively hot showers for 5 days post peel.
- DO NOT go swimming for 5 days post peel.
- DO NOT participate in aerobic exercise for 5 days post peel.
VI PEELS
The peel solution will be applied to the skin with a rough gauze pad. For Body Peels, typically no more than 2 layers are applied at least 10 minutes apart. The solution may feel slightly cold or tingly but should not be painful.
After
- If TOX BOOST TREATMENT WAS PERFORMED- Try to exercise your treated muscles for 1-2 hours after treatment (e.g., practice frowning, raising your eyebrows, and squint). This helps to work the product into your muscles. Stay in a vertical position for 4 hours following injection. Do not rest your head or lie down; sit upright; the head should remain above the heart.
- You may take Acetaminophen/Tylenol if you experience any mild tenderness/discomfort. Do not massage treated areas after treatment.
- Avoid extended UV exposure for the whole seven days after your treatment. Apply SPF 50+ provided in your VI Peel Aftercare Kit regularly.
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 48-72 hours per instructions from your VI Peel Aftercare Kit and to reduce bruising around injection sites. You may resume other normal activities/routines immediately.
- Avoid laser, IPL, or skin tightening treatments of the area for a minimum of 4 weeks (or as directed by your provider).

Tattoo Pigment Removal
- Avoid sun exposure / tanning beds for 2 weeks pre and post.
- Avoid pain medicine, such as Aleve, Aspirin for 3-7 days. Topical numbing cream or local anesthetic may used and cold compress may be applied a prior to treatment.
During
The laser tattoo removal itself may not be uncomfortable but discomfort is a normal response during treatment and recovery. The targeted areas will feel tender and sensitive to touch due to swelling and blistering thereafter. Once these effects subside over the next few days, so does the pain. Immediately after treatment, you will notice frosting on the area where the laser came in contact with the ink. It is caused by the rapid local heating of skin pigment releasing carbon dioxide on the surface of the skin which resembles white frosting. This signals the first stage of healing and it lasts for only a few minutes. More frosting occurs with dark ink compared to lighter ink. This is accompanied by swelling around the treated area. Redness, tenderness and swelling usually subside a day or two after treatment. Blisters start forming within 24 hours after treatment and they may appear alarming, but these indicate that your body is healing as it should. Avoid picking on your blisters because they will drain on their own and dry into scabs. The crust will eventually fall off within 10-14 days after treatment granted that the area doesn’t get irritated. One may even return to your usual activities shortly after treatment. The area will be bandaged to keep it dry for a few days following the treatment.
After
- Patients may experience minor discomfort and redness. This discomfort will subside quickly. However, the redness will last for 24-48 hours. Once the redness is gone the treated area will look similar to the way it did prior to treatment. Pin point bleeding may also occur.
- Patients may wash the treated area as normal.
- It is recommended that the treated area be coved with an antibiotic ointment for 1-week.
- The body will absorb the broken up ink and the area should be retreated every 9-weeks. Multiple treatments will be required to achieve the desired result.
- Keep out of the sun, out of pools/lakes/bath water until healed.
Apply recovery balm and keep it covered for 5-6 days while healing. Apply ice 10 minutes post treatment. Basic reminders: - Use sunscreen to protect the treated skin which is particularly sensitive to sunlight following treatment. +Don’t apply makeup or any potentially irritating product on treated skin while it heals.
- Avoid shaving treated areas unless the skin is healed.
- Don’t soak in baths, hot tubs or pools unless the skin has healed completely.
Results
Many people start to see their ink fade slightly after each subsequent session and greater improvement after three appointments.
IPL
- Be sure you have been evaluated by a qualified medical provider to ensure you are a candidate for IPL treatment and not at higher risk for complications.
- Arrive at your appointment with clean skin if at all possible. The treatment area should be free of any makeup, creams, perfumes and lotions. If you have dark hair in the treatment area you should also shave prior to treatment as pigment in hair can increase discomfort (feel free to contact us if you have questions about this!).
- Discontinue sun tanning, use of tanning beds and application of sunless tanning products at least 1 month before treatment.
- Always use a physical SPF of >30 on all exposed treatment areas.
- Wear sun protective hats and clothing.
- Discontinue use of exfoliating products at least 1 week prior to treatment. This includes physical exfoliants, chemical exfoliants and products such as Retinol.
- If you have a history of cold sores or herpes outbreaks in the area being treated, a prescribed medication (Valtrex, valacyclovir) is recommended to be started prior to your treatment- please contact our office in advance if this applies to you!
- You should have the following products on hand for after your treatment- a gentle facial cleanser, a physical sunscreen with SPF 30 or greater, and a gentle moisturizer. If you need product recommendations feel free to reach out prior to your appointment or on the day of treatment.
What to Expect

- It should take 4-6 weeks to see the full result and 2-3 treatments may be required to achieve an optimum result.
- The sessions are designed to provide no downtime however, occasionally you may find that your cheeks and under eye areas are slightly puffy after treatment. You may use cold compresses (5 minutes on and 10 minutes off) several times an hour to help ease both redness and swelling.
- Sleeping with your head elevated for the first night will also help decrease any swelling you may experience.
- Redness around the treated area for a few hours to days.
- Freckles and age spots may darken for three to seven days before starting to fade.
- Skin flaking for up to 10 days.
- Minor bruising that may last two weeks or less (very unusual)
After
- No hot showers for 48 hours.
- For 2 days after a treatment avoid taking aspirin, Ibuprofen, drinking alcohol, heavy exertion and activities which may cause skin flushing.
- Avoid harsh topical products such as retinols and glycolic acid products for one week after each session.
- Avoid direct sunlight on the treated area and use a sunscreen with SPF 30 or greater for 4 to 6 weeks after treatment.
- No swimming for a week, especially in pools with chemicals such as chlorine.

- No electrolysis, facial waxing, or depilatories (hair removal products) for 14 days after a treatment.
Results
- After IPL, you may look younger because your skin tone is more even.
- IPL will stimulate collagen growth by treating a deeper layer of skin, while improving texture, and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Laser Vein Treatment
- If facial veins are being treated, there may be minor bruising and/or swelling following treatment. This can typically be covered using make-up. Plan accordingly since your face may show slight evidence of the laser treatment for a week or more.
- If leg veins are being treated, there may be minor bruising, discoloration, and welting over treatment sites. Larger leg veins may appear bruised for a period of time after treatment. Full results can take weeks or months to be realized. Plan and schedule treatments accordingly, allowing for healing time and time for your treatment results to evolve to completion. The best time to treat leg veins are in fall, winter and spring when you are less inclined to wear shorts or be exposed to sun.
- Plan treatments allowing for a period of no sun exposure, vigorous activity or use of hot tubs, saunas or spas for 48 hours after treatment.
What to Expect
You should not need to take time off from work or have any downtime.
After
- Please call us at the first sign of persistent pain or blistering.
- Use compression stockings (aka support hose) 20-30 psi worn continuously for three to five days. (You may purchase these at a medical supply store or pharmacy.)
- Treatment area should be gently washed twice per day with lukewarm water and mild soap.
- Best results to be seen after 1-2 treatments. Leg vein resolution usually takes 8-12 weeks. At the end of this process, some vessels may be gone while others may be lighter or not affected. A series of treatments is necessary for some veins. Additionally, the further down on the body, the more stubborn veins can be to disappear.
- Most patients are recommended to have a series of 3 treatments 6-8 weeks apart.
- Depending on the area treated, some swelling and irritation may occur. However, most treatments have little to no down time and few side effects.
- Avoid sunlight and use sunscreen or antibiotic ointments to promote healing and prevent damage. If a scab forms, it should not be picked or scarring may occur.
- DOs – Cold packs to reduce redness/swelling, use SPF, wear compression garment/support for 3-5 days as needed (best results with longer wear).
- DO NOTs – exercise for 3 days, take hot baths/showers, use hot tubs/saunas or have any alcohol/blood thinners for 5 days.
HYALURONIC ACID DERMAL FILLER
Before
- Avoid medications that inhibit clotting such as vitamin E, aspirin, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for seven days prior to treatment. If any of these medications are prescribed by your primary care provider, please reach out to them for advice on how to proceed or contact our office for guidance.
- If you have a history of facial cold sores (herpes, HSV), there is a risk that the needle sites could contribute to a recurrence. Please inform our office if this is a potential so we can coordinate preventative treatment.
- There should be no dental work (including routine cleanings) for 30 days before and after treatment. Please contact our office asap if this is a concern.
During
- You will feel multiple small needle injections and a slight stinging sensation, which will last about 3-5 seconds.
- If cannula technique is utilized, you will feel a small needle injection at each ‘port site’ with burning due to lidocaine injection to numb the area, followed by pressure and ‘popping’ sensations.
- Depending on treatment area there are several options for pain control including injections to numb the area or associated nerve.
After
- You may experience some redness and swelling which normally lasts less than 7 days. Cold compresses may be used immediately after treatment to reduce swelling but is not necessary. If you choose to use cold compress, please make sure to have a barrier between to avoid burning your skin with ice and ensure what you are using is clean to prevent infection.
- If pain is severe after treatment or is associated with other reactions, such as pain, temperature changes, or any sores, please contact the office immediately.
- If excessive swelling or any pain continues beyond 7 days, please contact the office immediately.
- You may experience some mild to severe bruising after your dermal filler treatment. This is normal and may last up to three weeks. Please plan your calendar accordingly. We have options to help expedite the bruising, we suggest taking advantage of these options.
- PLEASE DO NOT APPLY MAKEUP TO THE AREA for at least 72 hours, preferably 5 days. Cosmetics are inherently ‘dirty’ and can introduce bacteria to your compromised skin. Infection related to filler can cause major problems/complications and we want to do everything in our power to avoid.
- Immediately after your procedure and for AT LEAST 48 hours (ideally 7-14 days) you should avoid the following: * Strenuous Exercise * Sun exposure/heat exposure/tanning beds * Alcoholic Beverages * Massaging/pressing areas treated * Extreme cold temperatures * Excessive sodium (salt) intake.
- 48 hours after your procedure you may resume previous supplements such as gingko Biloba, garlic, flax oil, flax oil, cod liver oil, vitamin A, vitamin E, or any other essential fatty acids.
- Having a follow-up treatment before the product has fully dissipated will re-stimulate your own natural collagen and prolong your refreshed appearance. Please be sure to consult our office for individual timing recommendations for follow-up.
- If Laser treatment, Chemical Peel or any other procedure is considered after dermal filler treatment, the risk of eliciting an inflammatory process may be possible.

During
You will feel multiple small needle injections
After
- Ice packs may be used during the first 24 hours-10minutes on, 10 minutes off.
- Massage the injected site as directed 5x a day for 5 minutes 5 days after treatment.
- Aspirin, NSAID’s and alcohol should be avoided for the first few days after treatment.
- Tylenol may be used for pain control.
- Exaggerated movements of the areas treated should be avoided for the first several days.
Laser Hair Reduction
- Prior to a laser hair removal treatment, patients must abstain from tweezing, waxing, or any other unwanted hair treatment that removes hair from its root.
- There must be hair in the hair follicle for laser hair removal to work. The laser is attracted to the melanin, or pigment, of the hair. The hair must be in its anagen, or active, growth phase.
- Don’t Tan: You should also avoid sun exposure in the 4-6 weeks prior to your laser hair removal treatment. Tanned skin has extra melanin, which attracts laser energy.
- Don’t Moisturize: Right before your laser hair removal treatment, avoid applying any lotion, sunscreen, perfume, or other similar cosmetics to the surface of your skin.
- Shave: Shave 1-3 days before your session. The idea is to have a nice, close shave, so that there is no hair outside the skin. It is best to have just enough hair to be visible so your laser technician knows what is to be treated. There may be some slight charring of the small amount of stubble that gets hit by the laser. So, if you notice an odor of singed hair, that’s normal.
During
- Hair grows in cycles, making it necessary to receive a series of treatments. This varies from patient to patient. Each treatment is spaced between 4-6 weeks apart and a minimum of 6-8 treatments is recommended.
- Gel will be applied to the area of treatment. The laser hand-piece has a cooling tip that will be applied to the areas and glided on the skin in a crosshatch pattern.
- You will feel a sensation like a snapping rubber band and mild warmth. Most patients find that the treatment is tolerable on it’s own but topical numbing or Nitronox therapy is available at an additional cost.
After
- There is no downtime associated with this treatment and patients may resume their normal activities.
- Avoid picking or scratching skin, do not use any other hair removal during treatment (waxing, electrolysis, or tweezing).
- Wash and pat dry for 3 days and on the 4th day start gently exfoliating.
- SPF is always recommended post treatment.
- Be advised that treated hair can take one to two weeks to be excreted from the body, and to fall out.
- Feel free to shave between treatments. Do not wax, thread, tweeze, or use depilatory products—this will remove the hair follicles, making it impossible to remove the hair with laser.
- Do not exercise, take hot showers, or use hot tubs or saunas for 12-48 hours.
Results
- You can begin to see hair fall out in approximately 1-3 weeks post-treatment.
- Although hair will appear thinner and less noticeable with just one treatment, you’ll need to return for multiple follow-up appointments to see optimal results.

Lipotropic nutrients are compounds that help catalyze the breakdown of fat during metabolism. They help promote the flow of fat & bile to and from the liver. In essence, they promote improved liver function and fat metabolism. The injection can prevent excess fat buildup in the liver – preventing fatigue. Lipotropic nutrients can decrease resistant fat deposits, boost energy, transform carbohydrates into even more energy, accelerates thought process, helps keep healthy skin tone and strong nails, promotes healthy hair growth, controls estrogen levels, helps control cholesterol levels and gallstones, improves mood, speeds up metabolism and the natural removal of fat in a time released formula.
PRP/PRFM
Before
- Do Not Take ASPIRIN or IBUPROFEN (Advil, Motrin), or NAPROXEN (Aleve) or other Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS) similar to these medications, for TEN (10) days before treatment. These substances impair platelet function in the normal clotting process and thus promote bleeding and bruising. It is permissible to take acetaminophen (Tylenol or Anacin-3)
- Do Not Drink Alcohol for Two (2) days prior to treatment, this may cause excessive bleeding, and decreased resistance to infection.
- Please avoid red wine for four (4) days before surgery in order to minimize bruising.
- You should have a light meal before arriving the day of procedure, avoid caffeine.
- Please arrive with clean skin if at all possible.
During
- A small amount of a patient’s own blood is drawn into a vacuum collection tube containing a cell separator gel.
- The tube is then placed into a centrifuge and spun for six minutes to separate the blood into a supernatant plasma/platelet suspension.
- The red and white blood cells are located below the cell separator gel.
- The platelets and plasma are then transferred in a closed system to a second vacuum tube containing a small amount of calcium chloride solution.
- Fibrin polymerization begins and the PRP remains liquid for approximately 20 minutes before forming PRFM.
- Your PRFM is ready for use as deemed appropriate by your provider (Ex. topical use or injection into areas such as undereyes or areas of thinning hair).
After
- In areas of injection, especially the undereyes, it is NORMAL to be swollen and puffy for a few days.
- Bruising is common but should be mild and resolve within 7 days.
- DO NOT apply makeup to the areas of injection or topical use.
- DO NOT touch the sites of injection
- DO NOT swim or undertake in any strenuous exercise
- DO NOT expose yourself to long periods in the sun
- DO NOT sit in a sauna, hot tub, or Jacuzzi
- DO NOT expose yourself to extreme hot or cold temperatures, or to large swings in temperature
Results
- Along with the benefit of using your own tissue therefore eliminating allergies there is the added intrigue of mobilizing your own stem cells for your benefit. PRP has been shown to have overall rejuvenating effects on the skin as in: improving skin texture, fine lines and wrinkles, increasing volume via the increased production of collagen and elastin, and by diminishing and improving the appearance of scars.
- Results are generally visible at 3 weeks and continue to improve gradually over the next 3‐6 months with improvement in texture and tone. Advanced wrinkling cannot be reversed and only a minimal improvement is predictable in persons with drug, alcohol, and tobacco usage. Severe scarring may not respond. Current data shows results may last 18‐24 months. Of course all individuals are different so there will be variations from one person to the next.
Kybella
Avoid medications that inhibit clotting such as vitamin E, aspirin, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for seven days prior to treatment.
During
- You will feel multiple small needle injections and a burning sensation, which will last about 3-5 seconds
- As the fat cells lyse you will feel a slight burning sensation lasting several minutes (typically this sensation is gone within 15-30 minutes after treatment)
After
- To stop any incidental bleeding from the injection, use a tissue and hand pressure.
- Bruising/swelling at injection site is likely to occur.
- The submental fullness will look worse before it looks better due to swelling in the area. Swelling is typically worst for the first 1-2 weeks, then gradually improves over the following 4 weeks. By the 4-8 week mark patients are typically back to their ‘baseline’ but the area may feel firm and numb for a period of time. Full results are typically seen in 3-6 months.
Results
KYBELLA® (deoxycholic acid) injection is indicated for improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe convexity or fullness associated with submental fat, also called “double chin,” in adults.
Pixel8
What to Expect
As with all medical procedures, a consultation and examination are necessary prior to Pixel8 RF microneedling. For comfort during the treatment, a topical anesthetic cream is recommended over the area to be treated prior to the procedure being performed. Nitronox therapy is also available for optimal comfort. During the procedure the device hand piece is passed over the skin. The fine needles penetrate the skin and the RF energy is delivered once the needles reach the desired depth (each pulse is less than 1 second). The procedure takes approximately 20-30 minutes to complete but will vary depending on the area/s being treated. Immediately following treatment your skin will feel warm but will not be painful, much like a mild sunburn. Over the following day(s) there may be mild redness and swelling. Bruising is uncommon.
Results
- 1 day after the treatment there could be redness and transient edema (swelling).
- 3 days – 1 week post treatment your skin tone would be brighter and more even. If you have oily skin, you will notice significant reduction in sebum production.
- 1 month post treatment of RF Microneedling you would notice improvement in fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity. Improvement in pores size, scars, and over all complexion is also significantly noticeable.
- 1–3-month post RF Microneedling treatment you will notice continuous improvement in wrinkles reduction and skin laxity. Collagen production has improved and you can notice the fullness and plumpness of your skin.
Aftercare
- Do not do anything to your skin for 24 hours unless instructed otherwise by your provider.
- At the 24 hour mark you may wash your face with a gentle cleanser and apply Alumier Recover Balm.
- No makeup for 5-7 days. Your skin should feel healed before you start using makeup again.
- No intense exercise, swimming or heat for 5 days.
- After 7 days you may resume your normal skincare regimen, unless otherwise instructed by your provider.
- If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your provider ASAP.
- Most patients will experience flakey/dry skin for about 7 days. Some patients will experience ‘purging’ with a flare up in acne for a week or two after treatment.
- After 7 days, it is reasonable to perform light exfoliation as needed with an approved product (reach out if you need guideance!). It will take a full 3-4 months to see full results and most patients will need a series of treatments for optimal results.
Erbium
- Discuss and disclose any healing disorders such as caused by diabetes mellitus, connective tissue disease or radiation/ chemotherapy.
- Discuss and disclose if there is an active infection or history of herpes simplex of the lips, mouth or face.
- Do not proceed with the Erbium Yag treatment if the patient is pregnant or breast feeding.

- More intense treatments will have more significant redness that lasts longer periods of time.
- It is normal to have a sunburn sensation that may include some discomfort may persist for up to 24-48 hours.
- Patients may use ice to sooth areas of discomfort.
- A few days after peeling of the skin will begin, be sure not to pick the skin as this can cause side effects such as discoloration, scarring or infection.
During
- Topical numbing cream is typically used to help mitigate any discomfort. For patients who desire, Nitronox therapy is available at an additional cost.
- Your eyes will be covered to protect them from the laser.
- The laser head will be held in a way that hovers over the skin while your provider ‘pulses’ the laser on your skin. There will be a snapping noise and a mild snapping sensation that will feel warm.
After
- Mild erythema (redness) will be present in the treatment area and can last from a few hours up to a few days.
- Treatment areas almost always become erythematous.
- Immediately following the procedure, patients will experience a mild sunburn sensation that may include some mild discomfort.
- Most patients do not feel any significant discomfort, however, an ice pack (not direct ice) maybe applied to help soothe areas with discomfort.
- A cooling lotion or soothing gel may be used after Erbium Yag treatments. Please contact our office for a recommendation.
- It is important to protect your skin from environmental elements; therefore, a lotion with a SPF protection of at least 30 should be used daily.
- A few days post procedure, patients will experience mild peeling of the skin. The peeling is similar to the effects of sunburn. Continue to follow the skin care regimen offered by your physician. Do not pick at the peeling skin, as it may lead to scarring.
Results
- Erbium-YAG lasers have been used for laser resurfacing of skin.
- Example uses include treating acne scarring, rhytids, skin texture, and melasma.
Microneedling
- The treated area may be pink and mildly inflamed (similar to the appearance of a mild sunburn) for 24-48 hours following your SkinPen procedure.
- For 24 hours post-procedure you are instructed to avoid ANY topical products (including cleansers) unless specifically directed otherwise.
- If you are prone to herpes simplex outbreaks, such as cold sores, consult your provider on ways to treat prior or whether the procedure is appropriate for you.
- If your face or treatment area has irritated skin (sunburn, open wounds, sores) the day preceding your appointment, please contact our office before your appointment.
- This procedure may not be performed on active breakouts or open lesions. Please consult your provider prior to your SkinPen procedure to address any such issues.
- Wait at least six months post isotretinoin use before your SkinPen procedure, as isotretinoin use may impair proper wound healing.
- If you have recently used spray or self-tanning lotions on treatment areas before your SkinPen procedure, discuss with your provider.
- Avoid sun exposure for 24 hours prior to the procedure.
- Discontinue the use of topical products containing AHAs, Retinol or Vitamin A for 24 hours prior to your SkinPen procedure.
- If you are on autoimmune therapy, ask your provider if the procedure is appropriate for you.
After
- If you are prone to cold sores, continue your medications for 5 days.
- Do not apply any products or wash your face for at least 24 hours after treatment. We recommend avoiding make-up for 5 days after treatment. You may apply pure hyaluronic acid serum if recommended by your provider.
- After 24 hours, you may wash your face with cool water and gentle cleanser.
- After 24 hours you may use products specified by your provider. We highly recommend the Anteage Stem Cell Aftercare Kit for speedy recovery and optimal treatment results. If you prefer not to use Stem Cell products, AlumierMD Post Procedure Kit is a great option as well.
- If you have discomfort, you may take medications, e.g. acetominophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen as directed. Note- ibuprofen may increase risk of bruising.
- Be sure to use physical sunscreen (zinc or titanium based) daily and minimize sun exposure to reduce the risk of sunburn and uneven pigmentation.
- Most people will find their skin is acceptable for normal social activities the day after treatment. By day 3/4, it is normal for your skin to peel or flake for a few days. Be careful not to exfoliate or apply products unless specifically directed by your provider for at least 1 week after treatment. You will begin to see the benefits of Microneedling around the 7-10 day mark.
